Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 is a powerful smartphone in the Ace family. Although it incorporates minimal techniques for its design, Galaxy Ace manages to look really elegant with smooth, round edges and has a compact size. A display of 3.5” is an added advantage for viewing. The huge collection of 100,000 apps in the Android Market provides Galaxy Ace with unlimited fun and utilities as games, health, etc. You also get fast performance with 800 MHz processor along with Wi-Fi that combined helps in quick download, smooth web browsing and more. There is a feature of speedy quicktype too where the phone senses your finger and makes typing effortless. .

Design and Display

The Samsung Galaxy Ace S8530 featuring clean square trims with smooth rounded edges. The buttons on the Galaxy Ace smartphone include the volume rockers, power button and the touch sensitive Android buttons. The Galaxy Ace S5830 features an accelerometer for UI auto-rotate and a proximity sensor for auto-turn off. Even though Samsung introduced a bigger display for the Ace Plus but they left the display's resolution same at HVGA (320 x 480) and the pixel density is also lesser at (~158). A slightly bigger resolution of 400x800 would have been reliable. These limitations are evident in viewing angles of the display. You need to maximize the brightness output for outdoor usage. Indoors, the display is vibrant and filled with bright colored icons. The display is no where close to the clarity of Samsung's own Super AMOLED or even iPhone's Retina display. The display is just fine for normal phone usage and watching a film might not be prove entertaining.

Multimedia

Samsung Galaxy Ace supports polyphonic ringtones along with various audio and video formats that enables the user to swim in the river of music and entertainment without exhausting. Formats such as MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ for audio playback and MPEG4, H.263, H.264 video playback formats are supported by this smartphone and also the user can record song in MP3 format along with a video in MP4 format. This low end handset has an in built speakers and to have more fun with music the user can connect this device to big speakers and woofers with the help of 3.5 mm earphone jack and A2DP Bluetooth. To add more to the amazement, Samsung Galaxy Ace has FM radio with RDS technology that will help the users to enhance their music library by saving more songs from radio.

Pictures and Vedio quality

Samsung Galaxy Ace has an amazing 5 MP auto focus camera with LED Flash that allows you to have photographs even in low light ambiance and this camera is supported with features like Geo-tagging, face and smile detection. This camera provides an amazing picture size of 2592 x 1944 pixels and can record a QVGA video with 20 frames per second and a WVGA video with 30 frames per second. The Android video player add more to the experience and can record a video of size 320 x 240. Video messaging is also available in this smartphone along with a support for video streaming.

Hardware

Sporting a battery-friendly 800MHz Snapdragon processor, the Galaxy Ace is capable of running relatively intensive games like GTA III or The Sims 3. The camera takes pictures at 5MP or 2592 x 1944 pixels and is supported by an LED flash, for better photos in low light conditions. Memory on the phone is expandable via the microSD slot, and you can add a microSD card up to 32GB which you'll want to do as the onboard storage is a mere 158MB.

Software And Gaming

The Galaxy Ace runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) software, one of the most popular versions of the Android OS. It also comes with the standard TouchWiz UI found on all Samsung Android phones bar the Nexus range, making the changeover from one Samsung handset to another a little more comfortable. The phone supports a range of media formats as standard including MP3, MP4, WAV and AAC, with support for other formats available through certain media apps like PowerAmp, downloadable from the Play Store. There is no DivX/Xvid support or Adobe Flash support in the web browser out of the box, so you won't be able to view certain videos on your phone without downloading third party applications to help your phone cope with the format. Additional features like AllShare, Multi touch Zoom, Samsung Applications Store, Android Market and lots more allows the user to have a complete entertainment with this device. The user can download various games from the net and to increase the gaming experience this phone has a Java support.

Performance

The Galaxy Ace Plus doesn't disappoint as a performer. Samsung has done a great job of blending in TouchWiz 4.0 with Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. The old Ace carried 800Mhz Processor. Considering the phone isn't a dual-core, we were amazed by the fluid performance. Although handling some games is the job of a dual-core processor, the single core Scorpion processor, Qualcomm S1 in the Ace Plus is sufficient enough for daily use and suits perfect to a mid-range handset. Here's where the Ace Plus stood out. A good 512 MB of RAM helps in the overall performance.

Connectivity

It has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n WLAN giving you wireless connectivity at its best. You can browse and download files at a great speed. The Bluetooth v2.1 is present for file transfer services. It also has USB 2.0 High speed, USB mass storage, 3G, AGPS and GPRS services thus enabling you to easily connect to internet.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Ace is a very much a scaled-down version of Samsung's higher-end Galaxy phones. Its target definitely isn't the high-end user who is looking to upgrade their Android phone but rather those who are contemplating buying their first Android smartphone. Despite its name, the Ace compromises on several key features - it doesn't have a brilliant AMOLED screen and the slow processor can't run certain games. The on-board camera is decent for still photos and it has a few extras like smile detection, but the video recording quality is poor. However, it does get the job done if all you want to do is to browse the Web, check e-mail and keep you up to date in your social networks. Another positive is the Swype text input method that makes texting on the small screen easier.
