The Samsung Series 7 Chronos is a high-spec 15in laptop wrapped in a serious dark grey body. It’s unquestionably gunning for the premium notebook market – quite likely hoping to find the confirmed Windows PC user who is teetering on the point of acquiring one of Apple’s 15in MacBook Promodels. The Samsung did a good job of porting some of the quality of components, along with several of Apple’s original technology ideas, to this laptop. And you can get this much lower price.
First came the Series 9, then the Series 3; Samsung, an increasingly impressive manufacturer of laptops, has chosen to make 2011 the year to debut a variety of notebooks delineated by series numbers. The Series 7 line falls between the high-end Ultrabook-style Series 9 and budget-targeted Series 3, and includes both a 15-inch laptop and a Windows slate.
Designed to impress with a cutting edge design, this Samsung Series 7 laptop with 17.3-inch display offers a sleek aluminum construction with one of the thinnest quad-core laptop bodies. You'll get clearer, more vivid imagery with the 17.3-inch Full HD 1080p display, and the third-generation Intel Core i7 quad-core processor provides multitasking capabilities whether you're playing immersive 3D games or creating HD video. 17.3-inch Full HD 1080p display, JBL speakers with sub-woofer, Cutting edge design.
It comes with two super-speed USB 3.0 ports--the latest development in USB data transfer technology. Perfect for transferring and retrieving large files between your PC and an external hard drive or digital camera, USB 3.0 offers the fastest, most efficient way get what you need from external devices. Additionally, this laptop includes award-winning Intel Wireless Display functionality. It's Core i7 processor helped it return respectable benchmark numbers. It was able to complete the Handbrake video test in 1 minute, 18 seconds and the Photoshop CS5 test in 3:23. Both scores are a few ticks behind the class leader, the Editors' Choice winning Alienware M17x R4 $2,274.00 at Dell (1:12 Handbrake, 3:03 CS5).
No surprise, the Alienware has an i7-3720QM processor that has a faster base clock speed and a faster Turbo clock speed as well. Other high performance systems like the Asus G75VW-DS71 $1,674.99 at Amazon Marketplace (1:18 Handbrake, 3:24 CS5) were in lock step with the NP700Z7C, thanks to similar processors. The NP700Z7C-S01US produced playable numbers on the game grid, yet it lagged the more gaming-oriented laptops. It was just playable on Crysis at medium quality (54 frames per second or fps) and quite playable on Lost Planet 2 (77 fps), though much slower on the higher quality settings at native resolution. It's a decent laptop for gaming, but hardcore gamers will be best served by a dedicated gaming PC.
