Sony Xperia go

The Sony Xperia Go is a mid-range smartphone. The Go is IP Code IP67-certified with water- and dust-proofing (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes) and has a 3.5-inch HVGA display with capacitive multi-touch support(up to 4 fingers) and usesed the Sony Mobile Bravia engine. It's equipped with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with auto-focus and an LED flash which is capable of shooting up to HD 720p@30fps videos and also capturing high-resolution photos.

The Xperia Go is powered by a STE NovaThor U8500 chipset with 1 GHz Dual-core processor and uses a Mali 400 GPU. Additionally, it comes with 8 GB of internal storage, (4 GB system-reserved + 4 GB usable) and it can be further expandable up to 32 GB using micro-SD cards.


 The Sony Xperia Go will be launched in US under the name of Xperia Advance. It will ship with Android 2.3 in Q3 2012 and a Android 4.0 update will be available after the release.

Main disadvantages

  • No ICS out of the box
  • Screen resolution a bit low by today's standards
  • No arm case and wrist strap in the bundle (ala the Sony Ericsson Xperia active)- available in the Xperia go "Sports Edition"
  • No hardware camera shutter key
  • No secondary camera, no video calls
  • Loudspeaker has below average performance
  • No DivX/XviD video support, 1080p video playback is a no go, too
  • No ANT+ support for connection to sports peripherals (unlike the Xperia active)
