HTC Desire C

The HTC Desire C (codenamed Golf) is an Android smartphone manufactured by HTC. An entry-level device, the Desire C is patterned off other low-end HTC phones such as the Explorer and Wildfire S with 512 MB of RAM and a 600 MHz processor, but with features from recent HTC devices such as the One X including a similar design, Android 4.0 and Sense 4.0, Beats Audio, and support for NFC. The Desire C is available in three different color schemes—black, white, and red. The navigation keys on the front side are capacitive, but we didn't experience any problems with them. On the right is the volume rocker, which is also well-made. The same goes for the power/lock key on the top, although pressing it could feel better, because the notch for removing the back cover is situated there as well. It's not a major problem. Our sample came with full versions of both Kingsoft Office and Polaris Office, which seems like a bit of overkill, but grants you a choice of platforms to create and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint docs.

LG Optimus 4X HD P880

When you handle the LG Optimus 4X HD P880 and look at it, it is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy SII, just considerably more powerful. Some would say it looks dated in terms of design. It may be time to reconsider, at least in my opinion, because there is a third runner in town and it has come from the most unlikely of sources. The squarer edges in fact make it feel more solid in the hand and less slippy than the curved edged HTC One X. Equipped with the True HD IPS display, the Optimus 4X HD guarantees the finest viewing experience with high resolution, clarity and no colour or shape distortion. Put it next to the One X and its pretty close in terms of viewing experience. Pulling off the back cover continues the look of the outside of the phone. It reminds me of an Airfix kit in how it is styled and I have to say that if the battery were white, it would look wonderful. Seriously, this is a beautifully designed phone, inside and out, and shows that LG has made huge efforts to create a phone that is a little different from the norm, but also practical in every area. Words can never explain what a smartphone manufacturer needs to do to make a smartphone special, but ‘special’ is the word I was thinking after a couple of hours with this phone.
